Real Cause for Gaddafi’s Expulsion: Wanted Gold Currency?

Some believe it [the NATO/US-led Libyan invasion] is about protecting civilians, others say it is about oil, but some are convinced intervention in Libya is all about Gaddafi‘s plan to introduce the gold dinar, a single African currency made from gold, a true sharing of the wealth.

Gaddafi did not give up. In the months leading up to the military intervention, he called on African and Muslim nations to join together to create this new currency that would rival the dollar and euro. They would sell oil and other resources around the world only for gold dinars.

It is an idea that would shift the economic balance of the world.

“If Gaddafi had an intent to try to re-price his oil or whatever else the country was selling on the global market and accept something else as a currency or maybe launch a gold dinar currency, any move such as that would certainly not be welcomed by the power elite today, who are responsible for controlling the world’s central banks,” says Anthony Wile, founder and Chief Editor of the Daily Bell.

“So yes, that would certainly be something that would cause his immediate dismissal and the need for other reasons to be brought forward from moving him from power.”

And it has happened before.

In 2000, Saddam Hussein announced Iraqi oil would be traded in euros, not dollars. Some say sanctions and an invasion followed because the Americans were desperate to prevent OPEC from transferring oil trading in all its member countries to the euro.

A gold dinar would have had serious consequences for the world financial system, but may also have empowered the people of Africa, something black activists say the US wants to avoid at all costs.

Some say the US and its NATO allies literally could not afford to let that happen.

  1. Well thats certainly an eye opener. I hadn’t heard of this yet. Nicely picked up. I guess that’s why there is n militray intervention into Syria despite the rising civil unrest and death tolls that is rivalling Libya’s. It’s interesting, the theory about America invading Iraq to prevent the OPEC from switching to Euro, the history of the OPEC is a very eventful one indeed. But when you look at how the major western oil companies treated the Middle East before the rise of OPEC you will understand the resentment. I’ll be looking into this gold dinar story some more.

    1. You might also like to investigate Greatest Man Made River in Libya – it appears that Gaddafi discovered massive amount of fresh water trapped under its soil. It been surveyed that it could supply the whole of Africa non-stop for over 200 years and has the potential to turn the Sahara Desert into green agricultural habitat – Gaddafi was planning on supplying water to the whole of Africa. I have not yet finished this post and is pending – will be available soon.

  2. The UN Security Council passed a resolution against Gaddafi and the Libyan military without any dissentuing vote after addafi’s threat to kill part of his population. Had he not done that, he wouldn’t have been attacked.

By the way, Gaddafi himself could not and cannot introduce a “single African currency” because none of the other African countries even considered this silly idea.

    1. How can the west Suddenly decide that Gaddafi is now evil and didn’t pick up on this idea decades ago? My personal opinion about Gaddafi is that he is a Monster, much like the monsters that rule Saudi Arabia, Israel/Palestine, Bahrain.

Can I bring to your attention 2006 and the war Israel declared on Labanon – it took the UN over 34 days to finally sit and ‘talk’ about a resolution ending the Ariel rape of Lebanon – Lebanon was literally destroyed by this time – shouldn’t the UK/French/US have declared a no fly zone over Israel and Lebanon in the first few hours of the war breaking out and bombed Israel – but no one uttered a single word towards declaring a no-fly zone.

I’m afraid you point is very week, but at least you have a mind of your own (and a non-bias one I hope) and you can see the double standard used. There is allot of dis-information being reporting around Libya from the news channels much of it cannot be verified therefore cannot be taken as fact.

The Single African currency – was being reviewed by many African nations – it would bring them out of the current situation all of them face – such change into a single currency just does not happen over night – but rather takes allot of time and effort and of course you get people for it and against it. Whether or not the rest of the African countries liked the idea or not – at least Gaddafi was on the right track to bring Africa out of poverty – or Andreas are you telling you against Africa coming out of poverty?

  3. I have found it hard to believe that the intervention was for humanitarian purposes when each single 1.5-tonne tomahawk missile, which cost between $US600,000 and $US1.2 million and can carry a 450 kilogram warhead and other bomblet, fired against libyan targets on the were 1st were officially said to be 124 missiles you do the mathematics, no to mention the the heavy warships, submarines, aircraft carriers, and fighter jets all this equipments consume large quantities of fuel cost a lot of money, and course feeding for servicemen etc, maintenance and the risk of losing or damaging any of the expensive equipments, the prospects of losing service man, would the western Capitalist Governments be willing to go this far, risk this much? spending this lot, without strings attached?all this for free in the name of humanitarian intervention, fundamental human rights, protection of civilians against their ruthless dictator, democracy etc, why are there no such interventions for the NorthKorean people who for a long time have been in a far worse situation, or the Syrian people who face almost the same situation and is so far getting worse, scores of unarmed Palestinians have been occupied, killed , evicted out of their houses, imprisoned etc for decades by Israelis and no humanitarian or other interventions, are the Libyan people superior to the North-Koreans, Syrians, Palestinians or is this selective justice?

  4. In USA there are two types of people. Nobel black people and rascles white people. Blacks are honest and hardworking like Martin Luther King and Barak Hussain Obama. Whites are dirty and filthy.

  5. Have you ever been to Oakland CA, or Richmond, Ca, or San Francisco, Ca .. Maybe you’ve never been to Los Angeles! There are more than two types of Humans in the USA and how you depict people as Noble or Rascles, these people come in all shades, shapes and sizes. Peace and Humility live in ALL Humans, just the same as greed and Power!
